Print on Demand
Print on Demand gives you the opportunity to print and reprint your books in the quantity that suits you. You never need to have 500 books stuck on the shelf for years waiting to that elusive order.
This also means you don't have to tie down your money for long periods in holding stock. You can put it to much better use.
We have a number of links available for you to roam at your leisure. These sites give you access to the best information around if you want to publish your book.
If you are just writing a book to distribute amongst family and friends the rules do change but it is still worth looking at the information available. It might help you with planning your project.
Paperback books can come in a number of sizes;
Most common page size 129 x 198mm Demy
156 x 234mm Royal
148 x 210mm A5
210 x 297mm A4
Other sizes are available upon request.
Note: Finished book sizes may vary slightly from the above due to the production processes and binding chosen.
Formats
If you are supplying your book on disk our preferred way is as a pdf file. If you supply a pdf file the book will be printed directly for your file we are not able to change the formatting, so the book must be print ready. If you need us to do some formatting for you, please use Mircosoft Word as this will allow us to lay the book out. Please be aware there will be an extra cost for this.
For more experienced users with access to QuarkXpress, Indesign or Pagemaker, we are happy to work form these files or again from pdf's.
Page layouts
We would ask you to set your margins up so as to give us a 15mm margin on all sides of the page. If you are working in Microsoft Word you would go to the file menu and select Paper Setup. This opens a dialogue box and allows you to set your margins. Set Top, Bottom, Left and Right margins to 15mm. Set the gutter to 0mm. Next select the Paper from the tabs along the top of the box and select the paper size required. If the size is not shown select Custom and type in your chosen page size. The last tab is for Layout and allows you to set your header and footer to 15mm. (Adjust your page margins to allow for the header and footer.) If you want a different header on the odd and even pages or for the chapter start select that here.
Your book will need a number of prelim pages before the start of the book. See the templates to download on this page for an example of prelims and also a chapter layout. These can be adjusted to match your own requirements.
